The "madness" for the tablets, especially for the Apple iPhone has triggered a shift in consumer preferences and has affected the sales of laptops, with unequal effects on Taiwanese companies.

The computer giant Acer Taiwan, the second global sell laptops, denies that death has come of that product, but sales have been badly hit and its shares continue to fall.

"The impact of the tablets has affected sales of laptops, but we are not withdrawing from this sector, because we still have opportunities," says sales manager Eric Ackerson Acer products.

Taiwan's Compal, the second largest manufacturer of laptops, announced a cut of 64 percent annual profit in first quarter and 13 percent in manufacturing in 2011.

"The laptop market has been hit hard by the tablets, especially in the fourth quarter of 2010 and the first of today," said Compal president Ray Chen.

Taiwan's Asus, Acer earlier that diversified production to include tablets and other products, seems to have suffered less in sales and its shares are held, but competition with the Apple iPad is not easy.

The island Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, maker of the iPhone and iPhones Apple is benefiting from the madness of the tablets and are looking for places outside China, including Brazil, to expand production.
They all follow the footsteps of Apple

All major computer companies, including Motorola, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, HP and Acer have entered into the manufacture of tablets, but Apple continues to capture most of the market.

However, not everyone sees the tablets can replace portable professional tasks that require a comfortable keyboard and touch screen.

"The tablet has advantages for multimedia content, but not for word processing or other tasks that require a lot of data entered via a keyboard," says spokeswoman Lisa Emard Acer.

Moreover, the price of laptops has fallen sharply and microlights are much cheaper than the tablets, Acer spokesman added.

The market has the final say Gartner and commitment to continued growth in sales this year will reach tablets, according to some estimates, to 54.8 million devices.

The most likely get tablets to replace the e-book readers, but do not seem to take all the functions of laptops, said Alex Cheng, a market researcher island.

If the current trend is not reversed, the Taiwanese companies, with the exception of Foxconn, will be adversely affected.
